Snapdragon Beads

Snapdragon Beads is run by me, Alice Elizabeth Still, and based in my home in Biggleswade in Bedfordshire.

All the jewellery is personally designed and handmade by myelf, and draws on my seemingly incongruous background in Computer Engineering and Mathematics. The design process is very much hands a hands on one; working up a number prototypes until I refine a pattern that works. Many prototypes have been stress tested by accidental encounters with vacuum cleaners and toddlers ;-)

My current work showcases my passion for colour and colour combinations and my fascination for geometric forms; both simple in the case of the Concentric Collection\'s colourful circle motifs and complex as in the beaded octahedra which form the basis of the Pop! Collection.

My primary focus has settled on off loom needle weaving, each beaded motif is made using some specialist thread, an incredibly fine needle and a quantity of high quality japanese glass seed beads, some as small as 1.5mm in size.

The Concentric Collection utilises a variation of Ndebele or Herringbone stitch which has been used by the Ndebele tribe of South Africa in their traditional bead work.
