The Coffee Bag Company

About us

Our Mission... is to upcycle and restore the good things in life. We recycle and restore fair-trade coffee bean bags into beautifully unique home ware, accessories, and gifts that are not only eco friendly, but soulful and stylish. Our Story... it all started with a mother and daughter's nostalgic desire to bring back a taste of the good life. Fascinated by the notion that one man's waste is another man's treasure, a desire to be environmentally friendly and a passion for all thing creative they set about finding their upcycled treasure. They fell in love with the rich textures of jute coffee bean sacks. To their bewilderment these sacks were a roaster's waste products. Disheartened by the consumer waste culture and the mundane high street they decided to rescue and restore the sacks. Each coffee sack is completely unique with bold colours and beautiful graphics. They are all stamped with the country of origin, and bear the rustic markings of both merchant and exporter. The coffee sacks are gorgeously soulful and by creating a mix of opposing textures and stencilling bold graffiti graphics on to them we give our products an edgy industrial chic look that bucks the high street ditsy print! Our Ethics... We try to use as many sustainable and fair trade principles in our designs as possible by creating products with the tiniest of footprints. The Coffee bags themselves are made from Jute, a natural vegetable fibre which is strong and resilient. The production of jute is fully sustainable and needs no pesticides or GM's to grow and is biodegradable. Jute has a wonderful texture that becomes softer and suppler with age. Not only do we try and use green materials but we try to use materials that have been produced and traded fairly. The coffee bags themselves are full of soul having had a whole other life transporting fair-trade green coffee beans from all over the world to the UK. Our products are all made in Britain as we believe in a fair distribution of work and a fair price for both the producers and the consumers. The addition of the fair trade ceramic buttons adds another contrasting texture and are sourced from a women's co-operative from South Africa. By upcycling and restoring the coffee bags, our products have a sense of history, yet are still new. It is thought that there is enough jute in the world to provide everybody with two bags per year. Why not make your bag a bag from The Coffee Bag Company.
